Maibang Degree College was instituted on 5th September 1988. Significantly it was brought into existence on the birthday of Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan in essence of imparting value and quality education. Since then Maibang Degree College has been working relentlessly on its motto "Searching for Knowledge and Excellence". Folk of the senior citizen, educated youth led by the educationist Late Bhadreshwar Bodo pioneered the institution. The journey of higher education at Maibang was set for the necessity of education across the hilly terrain place among the youths enrolling students of weaker sections. It enhances the role of higher education in the district of Dima Hasao in Assam situated in an area of 112 bigha plots of land including the Botanical garden at one of the old capital of the Dimasa Kingdom called Maibang.
The office of the principal was glorified by the Late Bhadreshwar Bodo who was the first principal of the institution. His noble guidance invigorates Maibang Degree College narrating the story of dedication and sacrifice. He retired on 9th January 2006 and it situated Sri Dibyajyoti Hazarika to officiate the administration till 5th January 2023. My tenure as Principal of Maibang Degree College is enforced on 5th January 2023. It enacts me to patronise the grandeur of the institution in pursuit of knowledge and excellence.
Maibang Degree College was embodied by bringing a deficit-grant-in-aid system on 1st April 2001 and meanwhile provincialised on 1st December 2005. It has been ascertaining the needs and prosperity of the tribal and non-tribal people imparting the right to knowledge and information heightening the stature of education as time passed. However, the journey of the institution was initially uneven crucifying the fact of poor infrastructure and other allied facilities. However, it becalms all hurdles amplifying pure workforce and selfless dedication of the people and assistance of the Government of Assam, North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council and Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan. The teaching fraternity justifies the process of teaching and learning by specialization to deal with the curriculum for the General and Honours courses.
As such Maibang Degree College is now enlarged in its scope, function and infrastructure ennobling facilities of a library, smart classroom, departmental teacher�s room, staff quarter, and conference room procuring technology assets. Indeed the core aim of the institution is to benefit the students and it is accustomed by NCC and NSS and both have a separate office. Students are facilitated by the acquisition of hostels, and common rooms for both boys and girls.
Maibang Degree College has been imparting an undergraduate level of education in Arts streams. The institution has been strengthened recently by the initiative of the Government of Assam and North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council to introduce Science courses. Necessary steps are being taken for the appointment of teaching and non-teaching staff. It would fertilize the yard of higher education in the district of Dima Hasao familiarizing science education.
Maibang Degree College has been successful in fulfilling the dreams of the aspirants for Undergraduate and Postgraduate studies through the study centre of Krishna Kanta Handique State Open University (KKHSOU) since 2012. I am committed to working on the mission and vision of the college which is to foster students, teachers and the wider community with the proper knowledge to cope with the rapid technological change through teaching and learning through effective communication in multicultural and multilingual settings.
